About Us
We just love catasetums and wonder why they are not more widely cultivated given their ease of culture, particularly during the cool winter months.
Stephen Moffitt
Stephen has been growing orchids in the Houston area for over thirty years and is a member of the Houston Orchid Society. He has had good success as well as many disappointments through the years. He has grown just about every type of orchid at one time or the other. Catasetums and their hybrids have become his favorite orchids. Ninety percent of his collection is devoted to these fascinating plants. Their ease of culture and huge diversity is a big factor in his decision to concentrate on this group of orchids.
Sue Bottom
Sue starting growing orchids in the mid 90's after her husband Terry built her a greenhouse while living in Houston. Stephen introduced her to orchids at a talk he gave to the Galveston County Orchid Society back in the 90's. Now there are many many catasetums hanging above the cattleyas in her greenhouse in St. Augustine, including some new ones Stephen recently sent her as a gift. We decided the time had come for a website dedicated to catasetums. Sue is a member of the St. Augustine Orchid Society.
